👉🏼 Creating a pulse may not be available to everyone. The 'pulse creator' permission is given to you by your administrator and only if your organisation has this feature enabled.

👉🏼 Editing a live pulse is not available. We encourage you to plan and draft your pulse before you publish it. You can delete your pulse if you made a mistake and needed to start again.

Creating and publishing a pulse

From the home page click 'Start a Post' and then select whether you want to build a quick single question pulse or a longer multiple question pulse.

A ‘Multiple question pulse’ needs a title. This helps participants understand the types of questions they will be asked and will be shown on the card in the feed.

After you have added your title, select ‘Add a question’ to open the question builder.

To add a multiple choice question

  • Select the 'Multiple choice' button

  • Add your question title (max 280 characters)

  • You can then add at least two answers to your question

  • To allow participants to select multiple answers check the appropriate box

  • You can ask the participants a follow up 'Tell us more' question by checking the box. This will allow participants to anonymously comment on their multiple-choice answer/s.

  • When you are happy with your question and answers select ‘Save’ to add your question to the planning view

To add a Free text question:

  • Select the ‘Free text' button

  • You can then add your question (max 280 characters)

  • When you are happy with your question select ‘Save’ to add your question to the planning view.

For a multiple question pulse, the builder page shows you an overview of your pulse, here you can edit, duplicate and delete your questions from the menu. You can also change the order of your questions.

👉🏼 A ‘Multiple question pulse’ must consist of at least two questions. If you change your mind and only want to ask one question, you should create a Single question pulse.

Click Next step to move onto the publishing step

Here you have a few options:

  • Or just generate a share link to share your pulse manually (this means the pulse will not be accessible from the feed).

  • Select whether you would like your results displayed to participants after they have answered your pulse. 👉🏼 We recommend keeping display results on. It’s a great incentive to encourage more participation within your Rungway.

  • Schedule the pulse to be sent later or publish it immediately

Once you're happy, click 'Publish' or 'Schedule' to get your pulse live.

👉🏼 Please be aware that notifications for pulses are switched ON by default to give you the best response rate. This means everyone will receive a notification when you publish your pulse.

Save a pulse as a draft

At any point, while you're creating a pulse, if you try to quit the flow it will ask if you want to save your pulse as a draft. You can say yes to save your progress in the 'Drafts' section in your 'My Activity', or no to delete what you've done so far.

👉🏼 If you try to save changes to a draft (without publishing it), the original draft will be overwritten, It will not create a new draft. To revert back to your original draft, just exit the flow without saving.

Preview your pulse

When you have added at least two questions on the planning screen, you will see an option to preview your pulse in the bottom left-hand corner (See below). This will open your pulse in a new tab allowing you to preview the post through the eyes of a participant. (None of the data you enter in this preview will be saved)

While viewing the preview you can click 'Share preview' to get a URL which you can share with a colleague. This means you can get other collaborators to help with the creation of a pulse.

-----

You can manage a pulse from your My Activity section.

My Activity > Pulses

Here you’ll find all your live, drafted and scheduled, and ended pulses with a few options available to you.

-----

Scheduling a pulse

In the final step of creating a pulse, you can choose to schedule it to go live and end at a specific date and time.

Scheduled pulses can be edited before they go live from the My Activity > Pulse section

👉🏼 The pulse will go live and end in your local timezone at the point of scheduling. Example: If you set the pulse to go live at 1 pm UK time, it will go live at 1 pm in the UK for all users at the same time.

Manage scheduled and draft pulses

You can manage your draft and scheduled pulses from My Activity

  • Go to My Activity > Pulses

  • Switch to the 'Scheduled and Drafts' tab

For a scheduled pulse:

  • Edit and publish or reschedule for a different date/time

  • Delete

For a draft pulse:

  • Edit and publish

  • Delete

Duplicating a pulse

You can easily duplicate an existing pulse, whether its live or just a draft.

  • Find the pulse you want to duplicate

  • Open the options menu

  • Click 'Duplicate'

  • The create pulse flow will open so you can start to create a new pulse

  • You can choose to set the new pulse live, schedule it, or save it as a draft for later

Sharing a live pulse

You can quickly retrieve the share link for a pulse

  • Open the options menu on the pulse card (from the My Activity section or from the card on the Home feed)

  • Choose ‘Copy share link’

  • ‘Copy’ the share link to your clipboard

At this point, you can send that share link out to encourage more participants of your Pulse.

👉🏻 We recommend you bookmark this link while your pulse is active. This is also the link to use to get to the results page - once you or a participant have taken part in the pulse

Ending a live Pulse

You can end a live pulse at any time

  • Open the options menu on the Pulse card (from the My Activity section or from the card on the Home feed)

  • Choose ‘End Pulse’ from the options menu

  • Confirm that you want the Pulse to end immediately

  • The status will change to ended and move to the Ended tab in your Activity section

At this point, if the Pulse was in the feed then it will remain there with the status as ‘Ended’ so that everyone can still have access to the results. If you shared your Pulse via a link then you can use the same link to view the results.

👉🏻 As the creator of a Pulse, you can always find your Pulses from your My Activity section in the Live and Ended tabs.

Deleting a pulse

You can delete a live, drafted or scheduled pulse at any time

  • Locate the pulse that you want to delete. This might be on the feed or in your My Activity section

  • Choose ‘Delete Pulse’ from the options menu

  • Confirm that you want the Pulse to be deleted forever

  • The Pulse and all the data you collected are now deleted

At this point, the pulse will be immediately deleted and removed from the feed (if it was live) and your My Activity section forever.

Viewing the results of a pulse

You can view the live results on any Pulse from the My Activity section

  • Find the card for the Pulse you’re interested in

  • Hit the ‘View Results’ button

  • If you asked a multiple choice question you will be able to view an aggregated view of the multiple-choice options and each individual ‘Tell us more’ response (if you checked this option.)

  • If you asked a free text question the results page will show each individual text response

  • If you asked more than one question, they will appear one after the other down the page with the option to expand and collapse each question

  • You can download the results as a CSV file

👉🏼 You can copy and paste the responses in the ‘Tell us more’ box if you want to review them easily.

👉🏻 Whether you decided to show or hide the results page (when you created it) it will always be visible to you as a creator. The only time the results will not be visible to you is if there are less than 5 participants. This is to preserve the participant's anonymity.
